Hey there! My name's Roiben and I'm going to teach you kids how to make a badass OC, Zanpakutou, and how to RP like a champ.
Now I know some of you are saying "Psh, I'm like hella pro and shit, fuck your face!" and I say "No, fuck YOUR face!"
Everyone could use a refresher every now and then!
Now onto the basics of character creation!
Lesson one: Original Characters!
In this section I'll be covering every facet of a standard application.
Names:
Now when coming up with a name for your character, try to come up with something unique, but not something that's retarded. Don't name your character Raven Bloodsoaker. Why? Well unless you're Tara Gilesbie, that name is dumb. Nobodies last name would ever be "Bloodsoaker". Ever. Come up with something that will distinguish your character, but not to the point of making them stick out like a sore thumb.
Gender:
Pretty self explanatory. Don't be a shemale. That won't be accepted you ass. It's either male or female. That's it.
Appearance:
Always try and give the biggest picture of your character that you can. Just because you can see him/her in your head doesn't mean that your vague description is helping us any. Hair color, hair style, facial structure, facial features, eye color, eyebrows, mouth, teeth, clothing, etc,... All these things help everyone else visualize your character and in turn make them more real.
Personality:
Making a character who has no flaws is boring. Every single well thought out character has flaws. These flaws should be detrimental to them. You can't say that you have more reitsu than Ichigo, but Hollows are too scared to come after you. See? That's just plain dumb. You can't be brash and pig headed and have that not effect your character. Nobody is perfect, and the more imperfect your character is, the more people are going to enjoy RPing with him/her.
History:
General rule of thumb for a characters history is to have them NOT be related to any canon character. No exceptions. It brings up questions, and quite frankly, I have never seen anyone pull it off well. So this means that you can NOT be the secret twin brother of Ichigo. You can NOT be the secret son that Byakuya never told anyone about. It doesn't fit with any of the canons own stories, and your own poorly written explanations for it won't help with that.
Congrats you made it through section one! Now onto section two: Zanpakutous!
Section two: Zanpakutou
Zanpakutou spirit:
Always try and do one of two things with your zanpakutou spirit: Make them a reflection of your characters personality or make them the opposite of your characters personality. A zanpakutous spirit is essentially part of your characters soul, with a bit of their own flare thrown in. If your character is a dimwitted fool, then make the spirit a wise and intellectual being. While opposites, they show both halves of the same soul. Take Ichigo for an example. Ichigo is brash, arrogant, and stubborn. Zangetsu is wise, calm, and thoughtful. Notice how there is a difference? They compliment each other. One makes up where the other lacks. That is how it's supposed to work.
Shikai description:
I don't know whats with people and having their swords turn into scythes. Honestly. Anyway, always make sure your Shikai's appearance has something to do with the abilities it gives or the zanpakutou spirit itself. Sometimes, you don't even need to change the appearance of your sword. Don't make a zanpakutou that shoots lightning become a scythe. Why would it become a scythe? That doesn't make much sense. Make the sword reflect the abilities/spirit, or don't change it at all.
Release phrase:
Again, make it relative to the swords abilities. Don't have one that shoots lightning be released by saying "Swallow their flesh". That doesn't make a lick of sense.
Shikai powers:
Shikai is very very very useful. Everyone puts waaaay too much importance on Bankai. Shikai is your core. It is the basis of your fighting style and your Bankai. Now, most people pick Ice, Fire, Lightning, or some other element to make their Shikai. Most of these people have no idea how to use them, and make it up as they go. That is not good. When you go to make your shikai, think long and hard about your character, and how it would work with them. Think about the potential of your shikai. Always factor in real physics with your abilities. The shikai is an important part, don't skimp put on it, but at the same time, don't over power it.
Bankai appearance:
Your bankai should reflect your zanpakutous ability and its spirit. Period. If your spirit is a large thunderstorm, and your abilities are lightning based, then your bankai should look like a large thunderstorm. You should not grow black angel wings and have your eyes glow red. That makes no sense.
Bankai abilities:
A Bankai is the ultimate weapon. It is instant death when used in the right situation and at the right time. However, that's only when the Bankai is based off of the Shikai. If anything, Bankai is just an amped up shikai. Do not have an Ice Zanpkautou that suddenly shoots fire with ice. Why would it do that? Makes no sense right? So don't do it.
Yay part three! You've made it to the longest part of the guide!
How to RP well:
In order to RP well, you must always stay IN CHARACTER. YOU may not want to do something, but your character might want to. The game isn't about YOU it's about your character. If your character is easily provoked, and someone YOU don't wanna fight provokes you, you're character should get ready to fight. This is why it's important to make a good character. If you make a poor one, then your playing experience is gonna be a poor one. You get what you give.
Play relative to your skill level. That means that if someone is obviously out writing you in a fight, don't try and go toe to toe with them. Everyone loses at some point. If someones writing an essay against you every single post in a fight, you aren't going to win, so you should just take your lumps. If someones posting close to your skill level, then take a couple hits and give a couple hits. If someones below you, well, have fun kicking the shit out of them.
Never ever god mode, unless given permission by your opponent. It is frustrating and stupid. Nobody is invincible. Also, never just hit your opponent, they always have a chance to dodge, block, parry, and then counter. Never plan too far ahead in a fight, because it will never go the way you want it to.
Physics are your friend. When fighting, using momentum, gravity, inertia, velocity, etc,... can greatly aide you in winning. A player who knows physics has a huge advantage over one that doesn't.
Don't meta game. Just because you really really really wanna be in that even thread, even though you're off in the human world, doesn't mean you suddenly know whats going on and rush back to help. If you want to get somewhere, make sure you RP your character gaining the knowledge of it. Same goes for fights. Just because you looked up a characters profile, doesn't mean your character knows their abilities.
Don't use the excuse of your inner hollow taking over to win if you're a Vizard. Your inner hollow taking over means that you were too weak to keep it subdued. While you MAY win, you still lose the ability to willfully bring out your mask.
Don't defeat your Hollow in five seconds. That's not possible. It takes quite a bit of time for someone to beat down their Hollow. They aren't stupid, easy, run of the mill creatures. They're your most basic and primal instincts in a humanoid form. Treat them as such.
That is all for now! Congrats on making it through this guide! Maybe when I see you out on the field you'll be able to go toe to toe with me. Probably not, but that's okay! Just follow this guide and you'll be kicking ass in no time!
Now I know some of you are saying "Psh, I'm like hella pro and shit, fuck your face!" and I say "No, fuck YOUR face!"
